Fundraising during a pandemic - 05/15/2020

Earlier this week Magee-Womens Research Institute & Foundation released their article (check out the link for the full article) talking about our fundraising efforts at Whitehorse Brewing and we felt it really captured Darcel's spirit and the main reason behind our mission. In addition to that, we wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone who played any part in making this past years effort a success-- over $19,000 raised!! Right now, we are living in very uncertain times with the threat of COVID-19 and the closure of many businesses across the country leaving many people out of work. It has also left everyone with uncertainty for any events or gatherings this year as they have also been limited with no end in sight. Unfortunately, things like cancer don't realize that we are all currently in time out and won't stop effecting millions of people which means we can't stop our fight against it either! We may have to find some new and creative ways to make it happen in 2020 but we hope to be able to continue our success this year with another donation to Magee to support ovarian cancer research.

Last year at the check presentation, we had the opportunity to talk with Dr. Buckanovich and one thing that really struck me was when he told us how small donations become large grants. It really made me feel like our donation could make a significant difference. They can use donations like ours to start research and get some evidence that what they are working on has the possibility of making strides in the effort to detect and hopefully one day cure ovarian cancer. They can then use this evidence to apply for larger grants and along the way can turn thousands into hundreds of thousands or more to continue their research.

Our goal from day 1 has always been to one day have a cure for ovarian cancer or at the very least, early detection. Ovarian cancer is difficult to detect which leads to many women being diagnosed in the late stages and a high mortality rate. We won't stop until this happens and we have a lot of faith in Magee and their research and feel very strongly that they could be a part of making it happen. We hope that in the midst of this pandemic, you all will continue to help us support them and help us in our fight. September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness month and it will be here before we know it so keep an eye out for details on how we plan to raise funds this year to beat this awful cancer.

We won't let this beat you, Darc! We will continue this fight in your honor-- no matter what.
